When the majority of individuals think about yoga, the very first thing that pops to mind is certainly not yoga for weight loss. The overall view of yoga is that it's so slow and relaxing that the reason for the yoga mat, is so that you just had something to go to sleep on mid position. The odd truth is that it is really pretty effective for weight loss.

Now it's certainly possible to use yoga as a way to relax and many people do. It's also possible to use it to increase flexibility, tone and strengthen your core naturally. And while these things are great, if you make a few changes to your standard yoga set (namely speed it up and obtain that heart rate going) and you can do all of this and use your yoga session for some pretty effective weight loss.

Now I never promote any of these stupid gimmick weight loss products or methods. There are such a lot of rubbish methods kicking around the bookshelves and internet these days. The beauty with using yoga for fat loss is that it comes with the additional benefits, it can cost nothing to do and it's also easier than lots of methods out there.

Now before you start trying to do the splits I'd want to point out a few things before you get carried away with the idea of yoga for weight loss. Firstly it's no silver bullet for losing weight. You should combine it with other exercise techniques and (above all else) healthy eating. The most effective combination of getting fit and healthy for me personally was Ashtanga yoga and swimming.

And Weight Loss can never be achieved through a single approach. Along with Yoga and Swimming you need to consume a healthy diet, for this the ancient sages of India deviced a diet called as Sattvic Diet.

A sattvic diet if often called as yoga diet, yogic diet or sentient diet. Saiva Siddanta, Jainism and few other hindu sects practice this. In Saiva Siddanta it is usually said that "food is medicine" and it adds that people don’t need any special medicine if they focus on proper food. It is important for individuals who practice yoga to follow a sattvic diet (also people who follow Ayurvedic medicine and Siddha medicine should follow sattvic diet).

"We're what we eat", so the foodstuff too is classified as Sattvic, Rajasic and Tamasic. Sattvic food includes water, fruit, cereal, most vegetables, beans, nuts, grains, milk and milk derivatives ( butter, ghee, cream, yogurt), and honey. While certain vegetables are not classified as sattvic, like Tomato, Potato, Onions, Chillies and Pepper (not black pepper), people who want spicy food should go for black pepper and not chillies, jalapenos or red pepper. It is not just the food, but also the quantity of the food. It is very important to eat only until half full stomach, too much food is considered tamasic.

Yoga and Sattiv diet together can do wornders and the perfect way to lose weight naturally.
